Where to find the best roast duck in London? Ft. Gold mine
Review Gold mine – Queensway
Craving for crispy roast ducks and crunchy pork belly dishes in London? Then, you have to make your way to @goldminelondon. Gold Mine set its foot on Bayswaterās high street to establish its very first branch and has since then opened up the second branch (recently) in the heart of Chinatown @chinatownlondon.
Our family used to celebrate our special occasions and milestones achievement by getting the whole duck to savour at home. Itās a common food scene to have various small-size roast duck stalls in the streets of Malaysia but I rarely found a decent one in London until I tried @goldmine.
I also brought my mum to visit this restaurant when she last came here for my graduation ceremony! If youāre looking for a variety of authentic Cantonese-style cuisines including crispy roast duck, roasted pork belly and dimsum, then look no further than Gold Mine.
Hereās my review
Whole Special Roast Duck Cantonese Style (8/10) Ā£38.50
This is a MUST-TRY dish (I mean how can you NOT order this cuisine from the roast-duck-specialist?) You can choose to get either the whole duck or half duck. Itās definitely cheaper to get the bigger size if youāre in a larger group. Unlike the roast duck served in other Chinese restaurants, the wafer-thin skin is crispy and the duck meat is nicely cooked. Their special sauce is not the kind of bland, salty sauce. I weirdly love the fatty portion under the duck skin too.
Crispy belly pork (8/10) Ā£16.90
You know the roast pork is extremely good if the top skin is crunchy rather than elastic. They have totally removed the ānasty pork tasteā with their special cooking technique. One of the best roast pork bellies I have had across London.
Deep fried Soft Shell Crab with Chilli and salt (7/10) Ā£11.60
NGL Iām a bit disappointed by the portion as itās utterly small. You literally paid Ā£11 for 1 small soft shell crab and Iām expecting a little more generous amount tbh. Taste-wise, itās delicious. I like how itās cooked with salt, pepper with a whopper amount of fried garlic, spring onion and chilies. Give it a try but donāt expect the portion to be hugeā¦
Conclusion
Rating: 7.5/10
Price: Ā£Ā£
Worth revisit: YAS itās no longer a hidden gem due to its popularity, come here if youāre looking for no-frill Cantonese cuisine! I wanted to try their dimsum on my next visit!
